This classic tour of India’s Golden Triangle takes in the iconic destinations of Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. Day 1: Delhi
On arrival in Delhi, you will be met by a representative and personalized welcome at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Delhi, a city with great culture and modernity calls for every tourist to visit a new place and gain a new experience, Delhi is a cosmopolitan city that has a rich history stretching back thousands of years. It has been the capital of at least seven or eight great civilizations, and each of them has left monuments worth exploring.
Day 2: Delhi
This morning, get set to explore the old and new parts of Delhi. The exploration of Old Delhi starts with a visit to the 17th century Jama Masjid followed by a rickshaw ride through the narrow, winding lanes of colorful and bustling Chandni Chowk. Stop in front of the Mughal Empire’s most opulent fort. In the afternoon, proceed to New Delhi where you will drive past the Presidential Palace and India Gate, a memorial raised in honour of the Indian soldiers martyred during the Afghan war. Drive along the Rajpath past the Parliament House and secretarial buildings. Afterwards visit Qutab Minar, the 12th century tower of victory built by a slave king and prototype of all towers in India. Also visit the 16th century Humayun’s tomb, a precursor to the Taj Mahal.
Day 3: Delhi – Jaipur
The drive to Jaipur today is approximately 6 hours by a private vehicle. Jaipur, the fascinating capital of the marvellous state of Rajasthan. The graceful architecture of the city that runs across in pink colour has earned Jaipur the title of the “The Pink City”. Jaipur is predominantly known for its musicians, artisans and craftsmen. Today, it is flocked by masses for its fine jewellery, varied textiles and sumptuous cuisine.
Day 4: Jaipur
Set off this morning to explore the yellow-hued Amer Fort that served as the medieval capital of the Kacchwaha Rajput’s until the 18th century. One of Rajasthan’s finest hill-top forts, Amer is particularly noted for the stunning Sheesh Mahal pavilion – Palace of Mirrors.
In the afternoon visit the City Palace, which is an overwhelming complex of exquisite palaces, gardens and courtyards, decorative art and carved doorways. Also visit Jantar Mantar which is the most famous of five observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh in India. You will also view the façade of the Hawa Mahal – Palace of the Winds, a high screen wall with nearly 900 latticed windows.
Day 5: Jaipur – Agra
Today you say goodbye to the Pink City and head onwards to Agra – the city of Taj!! The drive will take around 5-6 hrs with an en-route stop at Fatehpur Sikri for the guided visit. Fatehpur Sikri is listed amongst the UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is one of the best-preserved examples of Mughal architecture in India. Some of the must visit monuments in Fatehpur Sikri are: Buland Darwaza, Diwan-i-Khas Hall, Panch Mahal, Tomb of Salim Chisti, the Palace of Jodha Bai and Diwan-i-Aam. Arrive Agra and check in at the hotel, the rest of the evening is at leisure.
Day 6: Agra
Start your day with the guided visit of the splendid Taj Mahal – one of the most iconic wonders of the world. Built as a monument to eternal love, this magnificent 17th century mausoleum made of milk-white makrana marble was created by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a tribute to the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz.
This will be followed by a visit to Agra Fort – the imposing fort is approachable by two imposing gates and constructed of red sandstone. Encircled by a moat, this dramatic city within a city was the palace of three emperors, Akbar, Shah Jehan and Aurangzeb.
Later visit the tomb of Itmad ud Daulla, built in 1622, I’timad-ud-Daulah is a tomb of Mir Ghiyas Beg, father of Empress Noor-Jahan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir. It overlooks the River Yamuna and is beautifully conceived in white marble, mosaic and lattice.
Day 7: Agra – Delhi
Start the morning with a Colonial Tour of Agra. The tour not only gives an insight into the life and times of a cantonment during the days of the British Raj but also allows admiring some of North India’s most beautiful Indo-Saracenic architecture unhurriedly. It is a three-hour easy paced tour which can be experienced either on a car or battery-operated rickshaw.
After the walk check out of your hotel and leave for Delhi to board your flight home or catch an onward connection to continue exploring India. Depart for Delhi airport to connect flight for next destination.
